Dr. Ali Jawaid has been extensively involved in student teaching and mentorship over the last 12 years. He has trained and supervised students from a variety of disciplines (medicine, biology, neuroscience, neuropsychology, public health), degrees (bachelors, masters, early PhD) and from three different countries (Switzerland, USA, and Pakistan). Dr. Ali Jawaid has led the courses ‘Neuroepigenetics of Mental Health’, ‘Neuroepigenetics of Learning and Memory’, ‘Introduction of Neuroscience’, and ‘Introduction to Biostatistics and Research Methods’ in Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering at Lahore University of Management Science (SBASSE-LUMS). Lectures for his ‘Introduction to Neuroscience’ course are available to any interested students upon request.
Students recommended by Dr. Ali Jawaid have been placed in top-ranked universities of the world, including in Harvard Medical School, University of Dartmouth, Duke University, Penn State University, UT Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, University of Bonn, and Maastricht University. Dr. Ali Jawaid has also mentored at least 30 students to get their first scientific publication and regularly engages with students at congresses and through his engagements with EMPA, ORPHEUS, EMSA, STN Lodz, and Aga Khan University Student Research Forum.
Dr. Ali Jawaid’s engagement with students is not limited to academia and he has been a vocal advocate about students’ mental health and has engaged with the students on topics related to their daily functioning, such as stress coping, addictions, and inter-personal conflicts. He has regularly conducted a three-day seminar on ‘Scientific Basis of Addiction’, which was attended by a highly diverse population of students and very well received.
